Salba® is grown using cutting edge and traditional agricultural techniques. It is sown mechanically and it is not treated chemically in any way prior to sowing. There are NO pesticides applied. Salba® is allowed to ripen naturally and then the seeds are mechanically harvested using a modified grain combine harvester. Salba is not subjected to any chemical treatments post-harvest. Once transported to our warehouse, debris such as straw, weed rests and foreign debris are eliminated by a cross strainer. It is then packaged in 20 kg. bags in preparation for shipment to North America where it is stored in a climate controlled environment, and packaged for use.
The first experimental plots were started in Argentina in 1991. By 1994 Salvia hispanica had successfully been introduced in Colombia and, in 1997 further experimental crops were done in Bolivia and Peru with excellent results. Now in 2007, all of our Salba® is grown in Peru.
