A randomized, single blind clinical study was conducted in 2000/01. Twenty one patients with Type 2 Diabetes completed a long-term study in which they were randomly assigned to receive the American Diabetic Association Diet in addition to either 50 g/day of Salba®, or an equivalent amount of control cereals matched for energy, fiber and protein. Each study phase lasted 3 months, separated with a minimum 4 week washout period.
Based on the significant results achieved in comparison to the control diet, the following health applications could be indicated for Salba®:
